A Charming Porch Refresh at Phillip’s Cottage in Minden, Louisiana

There’s something special about sitting on a front porch with a gentle breeze and a good book. At Phillip’s Cottage (a transitional home for women and children in Minden, Louisiana), I just gave the front and side porch a beautiful refresh, and I couldn’t be more in love with how it turned out! Using stylish and high-quality pieces from Grandin Road, I created a cozy, colorful, and welcoming space perfect for relaxing.

Let’s take a little tour, and I’ll tell you about each piece we used!

The Hanging Wicker Swing and Rug

One of the first things you’ll notice is the cozy brown wicker hanging swing. It’s not only beautiful but also super comfy with its white seat cushion. I added colorful pillows in green and blue patterns to give it a fresh springtime look. This swing hangs from the ceiling with sturdy ropes, giving it a fun and unique twist on a classic porch swing.

Underneath, I placed a gorgeous blue and cream floral rug from Grandin Road. The rug adds color and pattern, making the whole space feel warm and put-together. It ties everything together and feels so soft underfoot.

The Wicker Coffee Table

In front of the swing, I chose a matching wicker coffee table. Its open-weave design keeps things light and airy while giving plenty of space for a book, drink, or small vase of flowers. I added a green vase with a few bright red flowers to bring in a pop of color. It’s a simple touch that makes a big impact!

The Front Porch Swing

On the front of the cottage, I hung a classic white wooden porch swing. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the view of the neighborhood and wave to neighbors passing by. I layered it with a cozy blue throw blanket and several colorful outdoor pillows, including one with a heron bird, one with bright florals, and another with fun white leaves on navy. The mix of patterns makes the swing feel cheerful and inviting.

Planters and Door Decor

The tall navy blue planters on either side of the door add height and style. I planted daylilies and other spring blooms inside for a fresh, welcoming vibe. These planters are from Grandin Road, too, and they’re a favorite because they’re lightweight, durable, and so easy to move around.

I also updated the entryway with a new outdoor rug in green and white scrollwork. It adds texture and gives guests a lovely place to wipe their feet. On the door, I hung a cheerful green wreath with yellow and blue flowers, also from Grandin Road. This wreath adds the perfect pop of color against the navy front door and green siding.

To brighten things up at night, my electricians installed white outdoor wall lanterns from Kichler Lighting on each side of the door. They add charm and light up the entry beautifully.

Final Thoughts

This porch refresh shows how a few key pieces can completely transform your outdoor space. From the cozy swings and soft rugs to the cheerful planters and door decor, every detail was chosen to create a peaceful, happy place to enjoy time outside.
