Are you as happy as me that spring is now in full swing? I thought the doldrums of winter would never pass. When the weather is nice, you can catch me spending ALLLLLL my free time on my porches. Porch sittin’, book readin’ & coffee drinkin’ are my love languages! Today I want to show you some dreamy spring porch decor and a few tricks I’ve learned along the way.
Your porch should always be a place where you can relax and unwind. Adding comfortable seating is a must. Choose furniture that is both functional and stylish. Think plush cushions, soft fabrics, and supportive backrests. Wicker chairs, Adirondack chairs, and porch swings are all great options for porch seating. It’s no secret that I LOVE my bedswing and spend hours here during the spring, summer and early fall. I always decorate around existing pieces of furniture by switching out covers or throw pillows. AND, I’ve learned a quick hack with my bedswing! It’s easy to change the look of the cover by wrapping the mattress in a gorgeous quilt!
Your porch should be functional for your needs. For example, if you plan on entertaining guests, ensure enough seating and serving space. If you plan on using your porch as a quiet retreat, create a space that feels cozy and private. Think about how you want to use your porch and design it accordingly.
Amazon and Martha Stewart collections are some of my favorite places to shop for unique and seasonal slipcovers. I have a small collection I’ve garnered over the years and have lots of patterns and colors. My favorite colors also land on the spring color wheel, so you might say I go a weeeee bit pillow crazy when it comes creating my spring porch. Adding different textiles, such as throw pillows in various patterns, is a great way to style your spring porch. These pillows don’t have to be matchy-matchy; you can create a colorful flow with complementary colors and shine some light on your personal style. Since it’s springtime, I take full advantage of this opportunity to play with bright colors, as you can see in the photo to the right. However, if you want to bring colorful elements to your porch but still want a neutral base, then refer to the image on the left. I played with different shades of gray and added a pop of pink to accent some of my flowers. I will forever be a firm believer in mixing different textures and colors for a designer finish!
Consider adding an outdoor rug to your patio if space allows. The same rule of thumb for throw pillows can be followed here. If you already have a flow of throw pillows, then adding a rug will help coordinate an overall color scheme. Also, adding more textures will create a sense of warmth and welcomeness to the front of your home. Of course, I spring towards all the fun rug designs you might not typically see inside a home, but they are perfect outdoor statements. These pictures are from my porch in the past, but I can’t wait to style one of my rugs from my Simply Southern Cottage collection this year! I have some adorable options for spring, from soft neutrals to bright floral prints; you can check them out here:

Spring is full of new growth and fresh blooms. Bring some of that beauty to your porch by adding plants and flowers. Choose various plants with different textures and colors to create visual interest. Hanging baskets, potted plants, and window boxes are all great options for adding greenery to your porch. There is no such thing as adding too much or too little! Greenery is the easiest decor option because it can be inexpensive, and you don’t need to worry about coordinating plants with the rest of your setup. They match everything for the most part and give a space so much life! Of course, if you want to take the extra step and find some in-season florals to accent the colors in your pillows or seating area, that’s even better!
When it comes to your porch decor, don’t overthink it. Make your porch feel warm and cozy by adding a personal twist. Hang artwork or photographs, add a welcome sign or display collections of items that reflect your personality. Don’t be afraid to get creative and have fun with it. I love to add a rustic candle lantern and a few terracotta vases, but I mostly let the plants do their thing.
Here is another look at one of my past spring porches. I often use bright colors but neutralize them in a way that makes a space feel calm and relaxing. Pink is one of my favorite colors year-round, and lighter shades are easy to accent with a neutral base. This cohesive look is achieved by finding different patterns of baby pink and various shades of creams.
You can create your dream spring porch by making a space that reflects your personality and meets your needs. Whether you have a huge wrap-around porch or a small balcony off an apartment, adding a few small touches can go a long way. This should be a space you are drawn to when starting your morning or at the end of a long day. With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to creating the perfect outdoor oasis.
