If you haven’t started decorating for the fall or don’t feel like your decor is at the level you want it to be, don’t stress—it’s not too late! Here’s some inspiration to bring autumn vibes to your home. I love to layer different colors and textures in my home—little touches here and there make a world of difference. Here are some of my favorite fall decor projects and how I create a cozy home for fall.
I usually keep my living room on the same track as my library area. It’s important to me for this room to feel SO cozy. There is a huge bank of gorgeous windows across the front of my cottage that lets light into this room, and also allows me to gaze upon the leaves changing color in the park across the street! I brought in those orange knit pillows from before but decided to add these plaid pillow covers to add some pattern to this neutral space. I also strongly suggest adding florals into the mix. Find the right colors, such as these faux fall stems, and layer them where you please.
My kitchen was not always this bright and airy, but it was part of my major renovation project. I love the results! I simply added a few pumpkins for a touch of fall in this space! However, because my kitchen is so neutral and bright, I could add almost any fall decor, and it would work. Check out your community thrift stores and farmers’ markets for unique rustic, fall decor options you can use in your kitchen. You can also add in a fall dish towel for an affordable fall touch.
My little garage porch is always fun to style. I have this adorable pumpkin patch sign (use Sara15 for a discount) from Simply Inspired Design Co. that was perfect for this space. I added boxwood potted double sphere topiary trees to either side of my dining set to balance out the symmetry of this space. There was a lot of white space in this layout, so I focused on adding brighter colors of orange to make it feel inviting and cozy. I love these Sunbrella Indoor/Outdoor Throw pillows; different colors help emphasize the surrounding colors in the environment.
This is my favorite outdoor space and I love styling it for the seasons. I have an entire blog post about styling my backporch bedswing, and you can read it here. Obviously, I had to go crazy on throw pillows again. I added these Autumn Market Sherpa Plaid Square Throw Pillows along with the same pillows I mentioned earlier. I’m a big fan of adding large statement signs like this Fall Sign Autumn Harvest Rustic Home Decor. Finally, I added my Jefferson Floral Area Rug out here for display purposes. Unfortunately, it is not an outdoor rug (YET) but it looks so cute under by swing. Layering was a big part of this design, and just when I thought there was too much, I added another layer, and it looked great! And yes, I know there is nowhere to sit, lol. This was styled for a pic!
Hop into the comments and let me know some of your favorite things about these spaces and/or share what you like best about yours! And I would LOVE to see your styled fall spaces! Feel free to send them over to sara at simplysara.com. Can’t wait to see what you create!

I always love your posts! So warm and natural! Right now, I am a little jealous of your kitchen though! I love your island!!
I just had to share how much I love your blog. I have been remodeling a house with my husband. At the beginning of the summer we got a dumpster rental and demolished our kitchen/living room area. We updated a lot and your blog gave me some great inspiration when it came time to start doing the decorating! Thank you!
Your house looks wonderful! Did you do the “In all things give thanks” above the mantle? It looks so great!
If you bought it, please let me know where.
Hi there! It came from Cottonwood Shanty.
