Cottage on Fort: Primary Bedroom Reveal!

Renovating this little 1940s cottage has been so rewarding. Now that I’m at the finish line, it’s time to start sharing some of the amazing after images and spaces.  When I started this renovation project in Minden, Louisiana back in the fall of 2019, I intended for it to be a flip. The plan was to be in and out in less than a year.  Then Covid came along early in 2020 and derailed ALL our plans, including the timeline of my #cottageonfort. I ended up with delay after delay due to circumstances beyond my control. The delays started out as supply related, but over the course of the year ended up being a combination of supply delays and health delays all related to Covid.

Fast forward nearly 18 months after purchasing this adorable home, and I just can’t sell it, y’all. It has been a labor of love and so for the time being I’m keeping as a guest house (i.e. AirBNB and VRBO)!  It’s not currently listed on any vacation rental sites as it’s been booking through word of mouth only. But I promise to let you know when I have it fully listed.

That being said, I ended up fully furnishing the home and was thrilled to partner with Article for the primary bedroom furniture!

I am so excited to share this space with you. Thanks to Article’s expertly curated and endlessly stylish decor, I was able to transform this space into the primary bedroom of my dreams. Initially, everything was dirty and dated! I ended up taking out the exterior door and the bookcase to create more space. During the transformation, I pulled down the paneling and was pleasantly surprised to find lots of shiplap hiding underneath! The ceilings were covered with acoustic tile. Once those were removed, I found GORGEOUS plank wood which Donald (my incredible painter) cleaned up and sealed. It turned out to be one of my personal favorite aspects of this renovation.

I chose Article’s Sven Briar Gray King Bed and it fits PERFECTLY into this space. I LOVE the plush headboard supported by a sturdy iron and wood frame. I wanted to add a bit of warmth, so I chose Article’s Calova Side Tables and Koepel Brass Table Lamps, both with mid-century modern/Scandinavian vibes. For guests that need a bit more storage space, the Geome Cabinet is spacious and simple with adjustable shelves and two drawers.

Then, it was important for guests have a cozy nook for unwinding. I added the Gabriola Ivory Boucle Lounge Chair along with the Tana Stool and Heron White Floor Lamp. This set up is so calming and peaceful and is the perfect location to start the day with a cup of coffee and/or end the day with a glass of wine or water. 😉

You may be curious as to why I chose Article’s furniture. My short and sweet answer? Article’s modern designs are built to last, they were easy to shop, and deliver amazing value. Their furniture is designed with premium quality and comfort in mind. It is also extremely important to me that the styles are timeless and create a sense of warmth and cozy vibes for all who visit my little home. If you aren’t sure what to buy or need a hand choosing the right pieces (though I really don’t think you can go wrong pairing anything from their collections together), Article offers expert recommendations from their interior design specialists. Article helped me create a beautiful, modern space, and their price points are extremely reasonable! And just in case you need to take advantage of it – they offer easy 30 day returns.

As I shared, the #cottageonfort is booked for the time being. In fact, as cute as this space already is, I still have some work to do in here. I still need to add artwork, accessories and some woven wood shades. Someone reached out with an immediate need for lodging and it was crucial that I be able to accommodate under a short timeline.  So, stay tuned for more scenes from this primary bedroom as I add additional styling features.

Then keep this little home on your radar if and when you find yourself in Minden, Louisiana!  It would be such a joy to host you and you can dream deep in this cozy, stylish bedroom.

Let me know in the comments what other questions I can answer about Article and/or the #cottageonfort! Hope to see you soon!

I love your porch!!! Are the little curved braces connected to the porch posts, wood or plastic? I am trying to find a source for some just like yours because they give the porch SO MUCH curb appeal! Would love the dimensions too if you can recall how big they are. Thanks!!! and keep up the awesome work!
