Creating A Dreamy Outdoor Living Space

We are in spring FULL SWING here in north Louisiana and I couldn’t be more happy about the warmer temps and longer days.  You know me….  as soon as the weather is nice, I’ll be living outside. Creating a dreamy outdoor living space is a wonderful way to take advantage of the natural beauty surrounding you. Having a serene outdoor escape is such a refresher, especially after long days. Here is a dreamy patio at my Barbie loft that includes all the necessary outdoor living essentials.

Outdoor Loft Railing

This beautiful outdoor loft at the Fuller House Upper Room needed to be transformed into a safe entrainment and lounging area. The gorgeous railing you see along the rim is from Barrette Outdoor Living. The loft was built around 1905, and it was important to me to keep the original character of this space alive. The results are better than I could have imagined. While the railing has the same look and feel as wood, it’s actually resistant to mold, moisture, and warping. When picking outdoor accents and furniture, it’s always worth investing in pieces that will last years enduring a variety of different climates.

Define The Space

The first step in creating an outdoor living space is to define the area you want to use. Consider the size of your outdoor space and how you plan to use it. You can create different zones for dining, lounging, and cooking. Use outdoor furniture to create a comfortable seating area, and add plants or other decorative elements to define the space. Avoid filling every corner; we want this space to feel open and blend into the surroundings.

When choosing outdoor furniture, look for pieces that are comfortable and durable. Choose materials that are weather-resistant and easy to clean, like teak, aluminum, or wrought iron. I found this wicker sofa and love the amount of seating it provides with a built-in side table. Patio furniture is known for coming in sets, so luckily, you don’t need to be a design expert to have a dreamy outdoor space. Consider adding cushions or throw pillows to make your seating area more inviting. Feel free to switch up patterns with monochromatic covers

Blend Outdoor Elements

Nature is a critical component of any outdoor living space. Incorporate plants, flowers, and other natural elements into your design. Consider creating a vertical garden, adding potted plants, or incorporating a water feature. Since this is an elevated outdoor space, it’s surrounded by trees. I didn’t want to go crazy adding too many plants, so I opted for this potted palm tree. I also felt this boxwood wreath was a chic touch for the entryway. No matter the season, a wreath is an easy decor hack that works for any room. The white railing is very distinctive, so this black terracotta vase is an obvious choice to bring in some contrast, or this boho crock will match any outdoor environment.

Personal Touches

Finally, make your outdoor living space personal and reflective of your style. Add artwork, rugs, and other decorative elements that speak to you and your design aesthetic. This planter bench is a personal favorite because, obviously more seating and plant space! It almost looks too perfect against its euphoric background. Featured here is the Simply Southern Cottage Springhill rug that works for both indoor and outdoor living spaces. Most importantly, it matches my pink door!

Lighting can set the mood for your outdoor space during the nighttime. Use string lights, lanterns, or torches to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Consider adding a chandelier or pendant light to create a focal point if you have a dining area. I wanted to keep this space intimate with these Northland black sconces.  I definitely needed some black here to complement the bright pinks, yellows, and white accents.

A dreamy outdoor living space is all about creating a comfortable and inviting environment that allows you to enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds you. The amount of fun you will have out here after creating your own oasis will be worth it. From hosting summer BBQs with friends and family or having a calm area to relax in, the perfect outdoor space will do it all.  Tell me in the comments what your outdoor style is and all about your space!
